Welcome, Apologies and Introductions

  • The Chair officially welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced herself. All attendees introduced themselves.
    Apologies were received from Professor Paulo Pitrez.
  • The secretariat and DHSC colleagues gave an introduction to the scheme which was followed by a general discussion of the Stage 2 review process.
  • The Chair outlined the agenda for the day.

Background and scope of GHR Centres

Ms Alison MacEwen, Global Health Research Programme Manager at the Department and Health and Social Care, provided a brief background of Global Health Research Centres Call 1 followed by an overview of the Scope of the Global Health Research Centres Call by the Global Health Research Centres Lead, at the NIHR Central Commissioning Facility, Dr Sylvia Anie, and the Global Health Research Programme Assistant Director at the NIHR Central Commissioning Facility, Dr Mike Rogers (MBE).
After the briefing, a short video on Unconscious Bias was presented to the Committee followed by a demonstration of Zoom voting by the CCF Secretariat (Ms Bronwyn Mathews)

Stage 2 Assessment Process

The Chair of the Global Health Research Centres Funding Committee, Professor Faith Osier informed the Funding Committee about the process for assessing the applications, the scoring, ranking and the feedback process. The purpose of the meeting was to make recommendations on which applications should be funded to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

The following Stage 2 applications were discussed by the Committee and invited to progress to fund or reject.
