Will a webinar be held?

Unfortunately, there will not be a webinar for this round.

How can universities become new members?

Universities can become members by collectively applying for the SSCR membership.

Is it possible to apply if we have not been in an NIHR school before?

Yes, it is possible to apply if you have not been in an NIHR school before.

Is research relating to children’s social care within the remit of SSCR?

While we acknowledge the importance of research into social care for children, research relating to children’s social care is not within the remit of the next phase of SSCR. Only research relating to adult social care is within scope for this Call, including research into the transition between children’s and adult services and support for family members or other unpaid carers.

Where can I find the application form?

The application is currently on the Research Management System (RMS). An account must be created to access it. Alternatively, we have provided a template application form. Please note that the application form must be submitted via the RMS.

The application mentions naming 5 key researchers.  In practice we have more than that – are we allowed to exceed 5 and if so what would be the way to do so?

We do want to capture the breadth and depth of the research teams within institutions through the application but the form is limited to 5 for key researchers. The application form is restricted to 5 CVs so in order to understand the capacity of the wider team we would expect you to describe the skills, expertise and leadership of the team members in the question titled 'Researchers' in Section 4 (Researchers). This question gives you 2,500 words to describe the role of the 5 key researchers as well as the wider team that would be involved as a School member.

Could you please advise me on how to 'invite' a collaborator?

It is not possible to invite a collaborator as part of the online application. Instead we would expect the application to be submitted by the host institution with the collaboration described in Section 7 - Collaboration and Strategic Partnerships. It may also be relevant to include details of the partnership in Section 4 - Researchers, as key researchers are likely to be from both organisations, and a description of how the collaboration will be utilised in Section 5 - Research Strategy.

Is social care nursing research in remit for the NIHR School for Social Care Research?

Social care nursing research is considered within remit providing any research activity aligns with the overall Aims and scope of the NIHR SSCR.

Are you able to elaborate on what is meant by the following under section 4. Researchers which requests that leadership members ‘Evidence of experience of commissioning research’?

This refers to experience and expertise involved with commissioning research (allocating research funding) and could involve activities such as: developing funding calls, reviewing research proposals, sitting on or chairing funding committees, and issuing funding awards.

Who will fund the FTE of the five named researchers on the application?

The FTE of the five named researchers in the application will be covered by the funding provided via the NIHR award.
