Workshop: Courageous and compelling conversations

Date

28 September 2021

Time

09:30 to 12:30

Location

Online

Holding difficult conversations is a challenge all leaders will face, however with effective planning and practice you can reach a positive outcome.

This virtual workshop on courageous and compelling conversations is for leaders who are finding themselves avoiding confrontation and struggling to influence those with different agendas or goals. During the workshop you will practise techniques that you can apply to a difficult conversation you might be putting off, and develop a personalised action plan to help you approach it with confidence. The interactive session will include:

  • Exploring the impact of different styles of conflict on achieving your desired outcome
  • Learning about the impact of active listening for more effective conversations
  • The opportunity to plan and deliver feedback using a structured conversation framework.

Some pre-programme preparation and post-programme work (up to 2 hours each) will be required.

To indicate your interest in participating in this virtual workshop please complete the expression of interest form no later than 4pm on Friday 17 September. If selected, you will receive confirmation of your place by close of business on Tuesday 21 September.

The workshop is open to NIHR Research Leaders and NIHR Academy Members.  It is intended for those who may be developing a leadership career, or for experienced leaders who wish to reflect on their practice and explore new approaches to leadership.

Places are limited to 16 participants. As we expect a high level of demand, places will be allocated to ensure a fair representation across the NIHR Leaders community and prioritising those who have not participated in the programme previously.
