Research Support Service Hub delivered by Imperial College London and Partners

In collaboration with University College London, Queen Mary University of London and King’s College London
This hub, which launches in December 2023, is a collaboration of four world-leading research universities, with expertise in research design, execution and impact. The partnership of diverse research groups and clinical trials units offers a national service to support research across a broad range of areas, flexible to researchers’ needs.
The service is underpinned by a dedication to developing and promoting cutting-edge research methods to improve the accuracy and efficiency of research.

Research strengths and areas of expertise
This hub supports researchers and staff with all types of award, from fellowships to large programmes of work. Experts based within the hub have extensive mentorship experience, and hold NIHR, Research Council and charity grants.
This hub has expertise in the following areas:
Trials
Access to a network of Clinical Trials Units for advice and support. Trial expertise covers:
- feasibility and pilot studies
- cluster randomised trials
- stepped wedge design
- Bayesian trials
- adaptive trials
Qualitative methodology
Expertise in a broad range of research methods including:
- Interviews and focus groups
- Ethnography
- Linguistic-oriented methodologies (including discourse analysis, linguistic ethnography)
- Participatory research methods
- Qualitative evidence synthesis
Co-production
Expertise in the co-production of interventions with PPIE and stakeholders.
Statistics and Epidemiology
Expertise in statistical and epidemiological design and analysis methods for experimental and observational studies. We also have experience in such areas as risk prediction and prognostic modelling.
Health economics
Expertise in measurement and analyses of health-related Quality of Life and particularly health economics and trials.
Implementation Science
Access to experts in designing and delivering implementation studies.
Fellowships
Expertise in advising cohorts of fellowship applicants from designing research questions and developing a team and proposal to providing mock interviews.
Artificial intelligence
Expertise in the design of artificial intelligence research
Research support
This Hub provides tailored guidance and expertise for all researchers, particularly those with less research experience.
Through online materials and training support will be available for:
- formulating research questions
- gaining funding
- patient and public involvement
Applicants close to submission can request a grantsmanship review from leading experts with panel experience. A post application advisory support and planning service is also available to successful applicants.
This hub is particularly keen to support those who do not have established academic networks, or who work in areas or disciplines where less research is conducted.
