Dr Rebecca Kearney

Professor Rebecca Kearney is Co-Chair of the of NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research Subcommittee A.

Rebecca is Professor and Director of Bristol Trials Centre, within Bristol Medical School. She is a clinical academic physiotherapist leading in the design and delivery of clinical trials. Her primary focus has been trials that evaluate the clinical and cost effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions in the area of trauma and orthopaedic rehabilitation.

She holds grants as Chief Investigator and co-applicant with a range of NIHR funding streams, including HTA, RfPB, EME and has held two post-doctoral NIHR Fellowships. Her research portfolio is predominantly pragmatic multi-centre randomised controlled trials that lead directly to patient benefit. To ensure that patients and public members are at the heart of her programmes of research she has also been a member of four James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnerships.

Rebecca has previously been regional chair for the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit Programme (2021-2023). She has also been a committee member on the NIHR Health Technology Assessment Programme (2018-2022), NIHR ICA Doctoral Fellowship Programme (2017-2021) and NIHR Research for Patient Benefit programme (2016-2019).
