Ben Patient

Ben Patient is Director of HealthTech and NIHR Head of Intellectual Property and Commercial.

Ben oversees:

  • several domestic research funding programmes
  • research contracting including due diligence, Intellectual Property and commercialisation, which assists the NIHR in complying with the necessary regulations around Research and Development funding and strategies
  • collaborative work to articulate the impact of NIHR funding to stakeholders
  • commercial partnerships, which enables the NIHR to enter into commercial research partnerships with relevant life sciences or healthcare organisations.

Before joining the NIHR, Ben worked within the Commercial Directorate of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and at a business incubator with a linked venture fund, where he provided advice on commercial and investment strategies, business transformation, technology transfer and intellectual property.

He is a Chartered Accountant, formerly with KPMG for 13 years, working across a broad range of services and sectors including consultancy, transaction service and corporate finance.
