Professor Kalipso Chalkidou

Professor of Practice in Global Health; Director of Global Health Policy and Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Development 

Imperial College London, UK

Professor Chalkidou has been involved in the Chinese rural health reforms and in national health reform projects in Colombia, Turkey and the Middle East, working with the World Bank, PAHO, DFID and the Inter-American Development Bank as well as national governments. Her work concentrates on helping governments build technical and institutional capacity for using evidence to inform health policy as they move towards Universal Healthcare Coverage.

Professor Abbott has experience in development studies, community health, mixed methods research, gender, wellbeing and quality of life. Her research interests are in gender, quality of life and social, economic and political transformations. 

Professor Marcello André  Barcinski

Emeritus Professor 

Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Professor Barcinski is an MD and PhD with post-medical and post-doctoral training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY, and the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, US.  His areas of expertise include Immunology, Research Administration and Parasitology.

Professor Prabha Chandra

Head of Psychiatry at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) Bangalore, India

Dr Chandra is a Professor and Head of Psychiatry at NIMHANS. Her main areas of interest are Women's Mental Health, Perinatal Psychiatry, teaching methods, ethics and palliative care.  She has started the first dedicated psychiatry service including a Mother Baby unit in South Asia for mothers with severe mental illness.

Professor Elizabeth (Liz) Grant

Director of the Global Health Academy and Assistant Principal Global Health

University of Edinburgh, UK

Professor Grant, as Director of the Global Health Academy, is responsible for overseeing the numerous global health initiatives across the University. Her research interests include palliative care, health systems strengthening, healthcare workforce capacity development in low income countries and HIV care and rehabilitation. She is on the Editorial Council of the Journal for Global Health. She worked for the Scottish Government as the Senior Health Advisor for the International Development Team and as a specialist in International Global Public Health for NHS Lothian Public Health Directorate.  

Professor Oye Gureje

Professor of Psychiatry and Director WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Mental Health, Neurosciences and Substance Abuse

University of Ibadan, Nigeria

Professor Gureje is a Professor of Psychiatry and Director at the University of Ibadan  with over two decades of leadership roles in global mental health research. He has a key role in mental health policy development in Nigeria as the Chair of the Federal Ministry of Health’s Mental Health Action Committee.

Professor Catherine Harmer

 Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience; Research Fellow

University of Oxford, UK

Professor Harmer is the director of the Psychopharmacology and Emotional Research Lab (PERL) based at the University Department of Psychiatry in Oxford. She has been elected positions on ECNP executive Committee (2016- ), BAP council
(2007-2014), Wellcome Trust Expert Review Group (mental health and neuroscience), and an Editorial board member of Biological Psychiatry.

Professor Eugene Kinyanda

Head of the mental health project 

MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit, Uganda

Professor Kinyanda is a Senior Investigator Scientist specialising in mental health. He is head of the mental health project at the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS. His areas of research include psychiatric and psychosocial implications of HIV/AIDS, war affected populations and the epidemiology of common mental disorders. He holds an Honorary Professor position at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Professor Marie-Louise Newell

Emeritus Professor of Global Health 

University of Southampton, UK

Marie-Louise Newell is a Professor in Global Health and an infectious diseases Epidemiologist, her research on infections in pregnancy and childhood, in particular HIV, in resource-limited and resource-rich settings underpins her contribution to Health for All, across the Generations

Professor Moffat Nyirenda

Professor of Medicine (Global Non-Communicable Diseases) 

London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK

Professor Nyirenda is a Diabetologist/ Endocrinologist.  He leads the NCD Phenotype Programme at the MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit. His research interests lie in mechanistic understanding of the aetiology of chronic non-communicable diseases. He has particular interest in research capacity building in Africa, and was Director of the Southern Africa Consortium for Research Excellence, funded through the Wellcome Trust’s African Institutions Initiative.

Dr Graciela Rojas

Professor of Psychiatry

University of Chile, Chile

Dr Rojas is a clinician specialist in Psychiatry and mental health.  Throughout her career she has studied extensively on the mental health of the Chilean population, particularly women and users of primary care clinics. She is part of the Academic Commission of Doctorates in Public Health and Medical Sciences.

Dr Rahul Shidhaye 

Research Scientist; Adjunct Assitant Professor

Public Health Foundation of India 

Dr Rahul Shidhaye is a Clinical Psychiatrist, having a keen interest in the field of public mental health and implementation science. His research work is mainly in the areas of social determinants of mental health, integration of mental health in primary care and mental health systems strengthening.

Professor Daniel Smith

Professor of Psychiatry; Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist

University of Glasgow, UK

Professor Smith’s  is Professor of Psychiatry and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist. His areas of research include the genetic epidemiology of depression, bipolar disorder and related traits, data science approaches to stratified medicine for mental health, sleep and circadian function in mood disorders, the interface between major mental illness and cardiovascular disease.  He is also a Medical Advisor to Scotland’s largest support organisation for bipolar disorder, Bipolar Scotland.

Professor Andrea Sylvia Winkler 

Senior Researcher; Senior Neurologist  

Technical University of Munich, Germany 

Professor Winkler accepted the position of Director of the Centre for Global Health at the University of Oslo. In January 2011, she founded the Munich Global Neurology Group (a virtual centre for Global Neurology/Global Health) at the Department of Neurology, Klinikum rechts der Isar, Technical University of Munich (TUM). Since 2017, she been co-directing the Center for Global Health at TUM.
