A vaccine for all countries, all communities - Satya's plea

[on-screen text] Doctors, nurses and scientists are working together tirelessly to develop a vaccine for COVID-19.
A global solution means developing a vaccine that works for everyone.
In every community.
In every country.
Nothing is possible without volunteers.

Satya, Paediatric Doctor and Vaccine Trial Volunteer: I am Satya, I’ve worked in paediatrics in the NHS for a long time. I am currently working at Blackpool, again in paediatrics. I am here because I’ve come for the COVID-19 vaccine trials

[on-screen text] Why have you volunteered to take part in COVID-19 vaccine research?

Satya: It’s completely changed the way we live, the way we work. It’s not natural, it’s not nice.

[on-screen text] What does being a participant on a vaccine trial involve?

Satya: Once I registered for the vaccine trial I got screened, and once that was clear I got the vaccine or the placebo. And then I visited a few more times for blood samples, for monitoring and swabs, which is great because we are clearly monitored. And also there is a commitment on our part too because we have to make these regular visits to the hospital for the trial monitoring, which is important. And this is the reason I am here today, for the follow up visit, for bloods to be taken.

[on-screen text] Why is a vaccine so important to your community?

Satya: The vaccine is important to my community because this is a pandemic and it’s affecting everyone, all over the world, so it’s really important for people from all communities to come over, volunteer and sign up for the vaccine trial. Because we need a global solution and no matter your age, sex, race or where you live, we need this vaccine.
