This is a cross-programme funding opportunity, and research proposals must fall within the remit of at least one of the participating NIHR Programmes. Applications which span the remit of one or more of the participating NIHR Programmes are also welcomed. The Programmes involved in this funding opportunity are:

  • Notification of out of remit/non-competitive decision if unsuccessful: end of August 2024
  • Notification of Stage 1 shortlisting decision: early November 2024
  • Stage 2 writing window: early November to early January 2025
  • Notification of Stage 2 funding decision: mid to end of March 2025
  • Start date for funded studies: 1 October/1 November 2025    

All primary research projects are expected to establish a programme appointed Study/Trial Steering Committee and it is important that you read the Research Governance Guidelines before completing your application. Costs incurred by this committee should be included in the budget as appropriate.
