The research we fund and support helps improve health and care for people of all ages.
We deliver research in various settings in the NHS and across the wider health and social care environment. From 2021-22, research has been performed in 100% of NHS hospital trusts, 51% of GP surgeries and increasing numbers of non-NHS community settings such as pharmacies.
This page shows the specialty areas where we co-ordinate and enable the delivery of research.
Our Study Support Service provides practical support to get studies up and running. We also bring together research leaders from across the country to support research in each specialty area. These specialty groups offer both clinical and academic expertise, as well as practical support to ensure studies are successful.
We collaborate with industry partners and charities to fund and deliver research studies across all disease areas and health and care settings, so we can increase opportunities to improve health and care for everyone.
We also provide opportunities for patients, families, people who draw on social care services and members of the public to take part in, or help shape the research that interests or affects them.
